Ascentis is a highly respected UK national awarding body, which ensures full accreditation and recognition for its qualifications. AcCEPT Proficiency therefore meets the highest standards, not only with regard to the accuracy, integrity and security of test papers, but also to the upholding of strict conditions for policy and procedures of test centres, registration, candidate identity, grading and moderation.

UCAS

The qualification obtained from taking the Ascentis Anglia AcCEPT Proficiency test is listed in UCAS both as Anglia Proficiency and as Ascentis NQF Level 2.

Ofqual/NDAQ ESOL International Qualification.

Ofqual is the regulator of qualifications, exams and tests in England, ensuring that learners get the results they deserve and that the qualifications they receive count, both now and in the future. The UK government is bringing in legislation to establish Ofqual as an independent body, however until this legislation is passed Ofqual operates as part of the Ofqual. The Ascentis Anglia ESOL International qualification which you obtain after taking AcCEPT Proficiency is listed here on the UK National Database of Accredited Qualifications (NDAQ) as: Ascentis (Anglia) Level 2 Certificate in ESOL International (500/4064/9)

British Council

Ascentis is listed on the British Council Website for English Examinations which are accredited in the UK. These examinations are widely recognised by institutions and organisations.

Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)

AcCEPT Proficiency is aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) at level C1 as seen on the NDAQ. The CEFR level descriptor for C1 confirms that someone of this ability can use the English Language effectively for not only social but professional and academic purposes.

University Applicants – before considering the Ascentis Anglia university list please read the information below very carefully.

The list below has been compiled from a combination of personal contact by Anglia representatives who operate throughout the world, the Anglia UK team, the Ascentis team and approaches made to Anglia and Ascentis. The list features universities who have either confirmed that they would be happy to consider the applications of students with the AcCEPT Proficiency C1 level for entry to their courses, or have accepted students in the past with this qualification or currently have students who applied using this qualification.

We are constantly in the process of updating this list and welcome any information to help us keep it up-to-date. The list consists only of institutions with which we have had recent contact.

Universities are very large organisations which constantly change and develop, and in most cases they consist of various independent departments. If you have specific institutions you wish to apply for, we recommend that before taking their Anglia Examination you check with them that Ascentis (Anglia) ESOL International qualifications are acceptable. University admissions officers consider each application individually, and exceptions sometimes occur.

Likewise, even if an institution is not listed below, this does not mean they will not accept the Ascentis (Anglia) ESOL International Qualifications. It is always worth making a personal approach, or asking your agent to make a personal approach, to a university with your qualification. Universities and specific departments of universities who only take other examinations by custom and habit are often very happy to hear from overseas students with accredited qualifications with which they were previously unfamiliar. Remember, as well as being fully accredited by the UK examinations regulatory authority Ofqual, Ascentis (Anglia) ESOL International qualifications are fully accepted by the UK Border Agency (UKBA). In addition, if you or your agent feels that your application would be helped by personal contact from Anglia or Ascentis with any particular admissions tutor, please contact the Chief Examiner or refer them to Anglia at the address below. English language requirements for international students - acceptance of Ascentis Anglia qualifications in ESOL International

Ascentis Anglia examinations have over 50,000 candidates taking them each year from all over the world and the number is increasing rapidly. It is therefore more and more likely that in your recruiting process you will come across applications listing either AcCEPT Proficiency or any other of our ESOL qualifications as the certificated evidence of their English competence. It may be crucial both to you and the candidate that you know about these qualifications so that this recruitment opportunity is not missed. You will also want to be sure that a candidate with one of these qualifications has the right level of English language skills to be able to cope with the demands of the course they wish to follow.

Ascentis is an English National Awarding Body accredited by both English regulatory bodies (QCA /Ofqual and QAA) to design, administer and award qualifications to national standards. Anglia Examinations has specialised in international ESOL examinations for 15 years. The Proficiency level is an Ofqual approved qualification at level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework, C1 in the Common European framework, and is listed as such in the National Database of Accredited Qualifications. It is listed in the UCAS handbook as one of the qualifications which universities accept and is valid for Tiers 2 and 4 of the Home Office points-based immigration system. Ascentis is also listed on the British Council website as one of the boards they work in partnership with, helping to promote the qualification overseas.

Relation to Other ESOL Tests

Test users frequently ask how the scores from different examinations compare with each other. The varying formats, designs and measurement scales of different examinations make it very difficult to give exact comparisons with any degree of confidence. Such comparisons are difficult to verify both empirically and conceptually. With this in mind, test-users should nonetheless still find the following correlations useful to consider: the candidates who achieve a 6.0 in IELTS would typically receive a PASS grade in AcCEPT Proficiency; the candidates who achieve a 6.5 in IELTS would typically receive a MERIT grade in AcCEPT Proficiency and the candidates who achieve a 7.0 in IELTS would typically receive a DISTINCTION grade in AcCEPT Proficiency.
