Chichester College, February 2006

Dear Colleagues,

We are very pleased to introduce you to Anglia Examination Syndicate and hope you find this information of your interest.

Although we live in England and work as EFL Lecturers at Chichester College, we still have the opportunity to visit South America at least three times a year to keep a close eye on the development and growth of Anglia Examination Syndicate.

Meanwhile, our Anglia Administration Support and/ or Academic Team staff will be more than happy to help you in any way you consider appropriate.

We look forward to personally meeting you, your staff
and students later on this year.

Best regards,

English is the most widely used and recognised language in the world. The ability to communicate in this language is therefore essential as it can provide the gateway to many careers and opportunities. Anglia Examination Syndicate (AES) offers a comprehensive and structured programme of assessing English language competence, which students undertake at their own pace, guided by their teachers.

The Anglia Certificate of English as a Foreign Language is designed to take the student through all the stages necessary to achieve a level of proficiency and can be used to gain access to Universities and Colleges in different countries.

Anglia Examination Syndicate is a member of EALTA (European Association for Language Testing and Assessment). The purpose of EALTA is to promote the understanding of theoretical principles of language testing and assessment, and the improvement and sharing of testing and assessment practices throughout Europe.

Anglia Examination Syndicate is owned by Chichester College. The college opened in 1964 and is the major centre for a wide range of academic, commercial, scientific, technical, recreational and adult education courses in West Sussex, England.

Chichester College is a member of ENGLISH UK , and an accredited BRITISH COUNCIL Centre.

Chichester College has recently been awarded The Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education in recognition of its work with students from overseas through its International Department. The awards are the choice of Her Majesty the Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister. They represent glowing examples of the extraordinary excellence of work that is to be found in the Universities and Colleges of the United Kingdom. As part of the International Department, Anglia Examination Syndicate is recognised for its contribution towards this prestigious accolade.

One of the advantages of using Anglia Examination Syndicate is that students need not follow a particular course to take an Anglia Exam.

The programme can be run in addition to other courses of study, as it gives students the opportunity to use the English skills they already have.

The exam format is kept recognisably similar throughout the levels. The tasks candidates are asked to perform are usually found in most ELT textbooks.

Battery 1, CHILDREN’S ORALS, is designed to assess the level of spoken English of children from 4 years of age. Assessment at this level is based upon successful interactions between the candidates and the interlocutors.

Battery 2, GENERAL ENGLISH, tests the four skills, taking an accuracy-based approach to the reading and writing skills while focusing primarily on communication for listening and speaking for a combination of accuracy and fluency.

Battery 3, BUSINESS ENGLISH, also tests the four skills. Candidates are asked to process and produce information within the context of real-life business-related situations.

Besides the three Exam Batteries listed above, Anglia Examination Syndicate has recently launched C.I.T.E (Certificate for International Teachers of English). This exam was first introduced in Argentina in December 2005, and comes in 2 different versions: C.I.T.E General Training and C.I.T.E Young Learners.

For full details of exam contents, guidelines for the conduction of the exam, past sample papers, as well as all other relevant information, please contact your Local Agent or visit www.angliaexams.com.

All our rounds of Exams are held at Approved Exam Centres spread over the Argentinian territory. In order for your school to become an Anglia Approved Exam Centre, please contact us and we will be happy to send you relevant details.

Most institutions are thoroughly encouraged to become an Anglia Approved Open/ Closed Exam Centre. This gives their own students as well as external candidates the chance to sit the exam in a familiar local environment, thus reducing the students’ level of stress. There is no joining fee for any institution wishing to become an Anglia Approved Open/ Closed Exam Centre.

There are currently Anglia Approved Exam Centres in Buenos Aires, Chubut, Cordoba, Entre Rios, La Pampa, La Rioja, Neuquen, Salta, San Juan, San Luis, Santa Fe, Santa Cruz and Rio Negro.

Prospective newcomers from other Argentinian provinces are invited to join The Anglia Network.
